NO CARTOON AFTER NEWS TONIGHT Mini 1st Solo Exhibition by MAMAFAKA from Yanan on Vimeo.

Bangkok street artist MMFK had his first solo exhibition about 2 weeks ago, here’s a video recap of what went down on the night of the opening.

MMFK Solo Exhibition

What seems to be a busy year for Bangkok’s street artist MAMAFAKA(collaborating with Vans, Preduce Skateboards etc.), he still finds time to bust out artwork for his 1st mini solo exhibition. Im guessing ‘mini’ because of that particular reason, dude has been killing it all year round. Hyped to see what tricks(art) he’s got under his sleeves, so i’ll be booking my flights tonight most probably!

Here’s the address of the gallery,

MMFK for PlayGround Design

PlayGround Design, a local Thai clothing brand just got street artist MMFK to do one of his hairy characters as part of their new t-shirt range.

VANS Thailand

One of Bangkok’s most talented street artist/illustrator MMFK just finished up a job for VANS Thailand. Even they got a piece of his infamous character ‘Mr.Hell Yeah’, the dude just seems to be super busy this year and because i don’t speak the language, I’m assuming this was for Go Skateboarding Day. Always stoked to see my homies in Thailand killing it! Can’t wait to hang with the crew soon!

What a rad photo of MMFK by Prompong Ruangjui.

BKK to HK

Not very long ago, i did a post about one of the Thailand’s best illustrator/designer/artist, a good mate, a very awesome dude MMFK a.k.a MAMAFAKA, was about a piece of artwork he had up in an exhibition for a gallery in New York. I just found out today that he is contributing another piece to a different gallery called Above Second in Hong Kong time, at a show entitled Get Freaky that will open on July 20th and here’s a little intro taken from Above Gallery’s blog,

“Gathering over 30 established and emerging international artists, illustrators, and designers, this exhibition aims to illustrate the connections between works produced from every corner of the globe. The artists, who participate in the creation of fanzines, graphic art, street art, exhibitions, and who are initiators of projects in their respective countries, are pushing the boundaries of contemporary illustration.

Influenced by the urban context and human relations, these works contain humor and politics, and a touch of stylized surrealism. Dominated by flat graphic colors and thick-black outlines, the pieces in the exhibition show the clear influence of graffiti. Though taken out of this urban context and contained within the gallery walls, the pieces have the common framework of “street art” either through influence or participation. Whether it’s a black-and-white print by Loup Druelle of Batman having a bit too much fun at a party, or the pop-colored piece by Diela Maharanie of a fawn emerging from an unsuspecting womb, something from this eclectic group is sure to delight and surprise.”

MMFK x CONVERSE

MAMAFAKA, an artist/illustrator from Bangkok, collaborated with Converse to do his version of the classic Chuck Taylor ALL STAR. It’s all in the detail, I’m still waiting to see close up photos of the detail on the tongue and there’s even a tag on the traditional Converse tip.

I am stoked on this collab, as it looks siiick and I’m also personally friends with MMFK. Met him when he was down in Melburn a couple of years ago through the some Thai dudes we rode with. While he was in Melburn, he painted a few pieces around town and he sharpied my mates store Saint Cloud with his trademark character Mr.HellYeah, the one eyed monster with a mo. Which is what inspired him to do while he was in our rad city. The same one on the inner part of the shoe where the star is.

The crew from Bangkok are all designers and they’re doing really well in their country as independent artists/designers. I actually met crews of designers when i visited Thailand last year, it was awesome as every single one of the are really productive. MMFK also has a shop/studio in the fashion district of Bangkok city.

Not too long ago, homie also collaborated with PREDUCE(a skate shop in Thailand) and did a really dope board set.

Stoked to see my Thai homies killin’ it… Always! Check out more artworks from MMFK and his crew B.o.r.e.d.
